Samuel Creasey (1782)
« on: Wednesday 10 February 21 16:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,

Hope you are all keeping well and safe during the lockdown.

I am trying to get to the parents of a Samuel Creasey. The information I have so far is as follows:

Birth: 9th April 1782 (Baptised 7th Oct 1783)
Marriage: 24th March 1808 to Susan Purlant (surname possibly incorrect spelling, parish is not legible)
Children: John, William, James, Lionel, Samuel
Death: abt. 1839

His mother could have the first name Sarah

Has anyone researched this family before that could help?
Jackson - Stoke on Trent
Carragher - Lanarkshire, Scotland & Armagh, Ireland
McKay/McCoy - Lanarkshire, Scotland & Armagh, Ireland
Creasey - Suffolk
Feetham - Yorkshire

Thanks Rosie99
I'm guessing that's what the Bb stands for? (I just Googled it and saw that it means illegitimate).

I'm relatively new to this, so please forgive me. Would an illegitimate child back in them days mean that the child was simply born before a marriage occurred or that the child was a result of an affair?

Just a child born out of wedlock, the father may be single or be married to someone else.

Thanks again Rosie99

That makes things interesting!

I have since managed to find a marriage index for Stonham, Aspall that shows a marriage of a Lionel Creasey (Creasy) and Sarah Coats 01 Oct 1798  - perhaps this could be the couple?

Would there be anyway of finding out if they are siblings?

I have also found some more Baptisms for the following children on the same date (07 Oct 1783), same parish (Stonham, Aspall), same surname spelling (Creasy), and mother as Sarah:

Ann, Elizabeth, Esther, William & of course, Samuel. All the children vary in age, with no name for the father.

Would it be safe to assume these are all siblings and baptised as a group? Would the children have their fathers or mothers surname in this situation?
