Drayton of Nettleton and thereabouts
« on: Friday 12 February 21 16:16 GMT (UK) »
Betsey Drayton married William Beck at Nettleton in MQ 1878.

I think her parents were Joseph Drayton blacksmith of Nettleton (c1827-1895) and Mary Ann Mathers, married in Caistor District MQ 1851, but I can't find a birth registration for Betsey or her older sister Sarah, although there is one for her younger sister Margaret in Caistor District MQ 1856 mmn Mathers, which seems to fit.

It looks as though the Becks came from Holton in Lincolnshire, although they were in Nettleton by 1851.  William's parents seem to be John (bc1811) and Jane (bc1815).

I'm looking at this family because my closest DNA matches are Betsey and William's great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and in 35 years of research I'd not previously heard of this family, so it's all a bit of a mystery. Trees on Ancestry take things from William and Betsey's marriage, but I think I may need to go back another couple of generations to try to locate the connection.

I wonder if anyone else has already done the groundwork on this family.

I can help you with the Drayton side of the tree if that helps. My ancestors are Joseph Drayton's (1825-1895) parents - William Drayton and Ann Clayton. We could also see if we share any DNA so narrowing down which side of the family your connection is to your match - Beck or Drayton.

Jenny, that's brilliant.  I'd actually just written down "William Drayton and Ann Clayton".

Yes, let's see if we share any DNA.  I did the Ancestry test and have also uploaded to Gedmatch.

We don’t appear to have a match, which is a shame, but going through my matches, I have quite a few with the Drayton name in their trees and none with Beck prior to Betsey Drayton’s husband William.

I suspect I am dealing with a non-parental event here, but who and where is still anybody’s guess. My Lincolnshire family is all South Kesteven on one side and South Holland the other.

Thanks anyway.

It was worth a try. I don't seem to have many matches on that bit of my tree at all, so perhaps I haven't inherited much of their DNA!
Good luck with your search!
