Shropshire Newspapers
« on: Friday 12 February 21 20:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello! :)

Does anyone know if there is anywhere where I can find Shropshire newspaper records from the year 1927? Everywhere seems to stop at 1919? I am trying to find a record of a roadside accident in which a young motor cyclist, Francis Ernest Thomas died.

I've searched most of the online resources that I have - used  neighbouring English counties (Staffs and Warwickshire) and then all counties as sometimes such accidents are reported in other local papers but can only find his death cert ref.

I assume that you have that.

Hi,
Try Oswestry Library (assume its currently closed though), they have a card-index system listing births, marriages and deaths copied from the [Oswestry] Advertizer and the Montgomeryshire County Times plus microfiche copies of those papers which I've found very useful.

My research was1914:
Not at all sure when they stopped.
All the local newspapers back numbers were in the  Library  Shrewsbury ,on the bottom of Pride Hill ,near the station.
The building used to be the old Shrewsbury School.
The paper mostly read was” The Wellington Journal and Shrewsbury News “
They covered most of Shropshire.

There was a superb Local History librarian there who sent me lots of snips of obits, etc. but I don't think he is there anymore  and the service hasn't been as good for a good few years.
