Zipporah Williamson b 1876 Hayfield ,Derbyshire

Hi,

Another interesting point to be made is that on both Zipporah's and Samuel's marriage certificates (1911 and 1899 respectively) the father is shown as James Williamson (deceased) - same occupation. In the 1891 census information, they are the children of Caleb Hill.

Charlotte their mother was buried as Charlotte Hill in Glossop in April 1898 - see find a grave records.

1891 census - Alan you say that Zipporah and Samuel are shown as children of Caleb and Charlotte.

BUT if you look at the original image you will see that Caleb's surname is given as Hill, Charlotte's is given as "Do" but Zipporah and Samuel do not have the "Do", just the initial W - other families on the same page have the "Do" mark for wife AND children (with one exception).  OK they are named as son and daughter, but that doesn't automatically mean that they are the children of Caleb.

in my tree I have Caleb Hill b 1847 Glossop as Charlottes husband - Samuel Hill as their son - but Zipporah as Williamson - have I got this wrong

Thanks Bumble - still lost ...lol...I have always thought Zipporah was illegitimate but Samuel wasn't - so should I change my Samuel Hill to Samuel Williamson on my family tree ?? -that's what it looks like to me

I'd be inclined to do that - perhaps the purchase of the birth certificate might throw light on it!

1881 census appears to confirm that Zipporah and Samuel have the surname Williamson - grandchildren of James and Margret (sic) Williamson.

Thanks Bumble - I think that census proves what you are saying ...I will change it asap ...as I say - Zipporah died when I was 7 in 1958 ...oh how I wish I could ask her questions now ...xx
