He was as you say reported missing, then shortly afterward reported as a prisoner in German hands. Stalag 6J was the PoW camp, at Krefeld. He was reported as no longer a prisoner in Casualty List 1762 (22 May 1945), page 40.

Further to Sydney Clipson POW - I have now been told that Sydney was in fact in The Suffolk Reg - photos and family prove this. At first until this came to light we thought the South Lanc POW was our man
Can anyone make any sense of this as his family say he was POW - they are now not of the same mind on this some say Japanese POW some say German POW

Obviously any help will be much appreciated.

Perhaps he transferred form the Suffolk Regiment to the South Lancs. The photo on your other thread is quite early - probably no later than 1940 - and the PoW record is from 1945. Have you thought of applying for his army records?

Was it a common thing that somone would transfer to another Regiment?

Yes it was.

As far as I can see, Sydney George Clipson was the only Clipson of that era with the initials S G.

This German record shows that he arrived at Stalag XIB, at Fallingbostel, from Bocholt (presumably Stalag VIF) on 18 January 1945:
