It states on there:

The two parishes of Ashton upon Mersey and Bowdon were split up into numerous small portions which were inter-mingled in a complex manner and can only be distinguished completely by viewing the relevant tithe maps for the area.
Bowdon also once included the parish of Ashton upon Mersey.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thank you KGarrad.  Bucklow was a registration district for Bowdon, Hale, Altrincham, Sale, Ashton on Mersey etc from 1898-1974.  I guess after 1974, parts of it became Greater Manchester.

Registration Districts only came into being on 1st July 1837?
