Adoption records
« on: Monday 15 February 21 16:06 GMT (UK) »
I have a cousin born 1928 and she was adopted into our family.
I've tried to track an adoption record but nothing via GRO.
I obviously have her date of birth, death and adopted name but can't find anything.
Any help please.

As she was adopted into the family - was it an official adoption via Social Services or an informal arrangement?

Does her birth cert show "adopted"

Adoption records don't have a searchable index online in the UK, however, with the information you have you might be able to order the records from the GRO website, but this will cost.

We don't have a birth certificate thats really the issue. Don't know her name prior to adoption and no certificate for after adoption.

I did contact GRO a few years ago and nothing official there so not sure how she was adopted.  There were papers as she found these at some point in her teens and her father then burnt them.
