Grandmothers grave churchyards in Wooler
« on: Monday 15 February 21 16:13 GMT (UK) »
I know my grandmother, Mary Jane Wilkinson, is buried in one of the churchyards in Wooler Northumberland. My father showed me it many years ago. I have not been able to find it since. If anyone knows which graveyard she is in I would be very grateful.

Hi all,

Beginners mistake. I posted my grandmothers maiden name not her married name.

I should have said can anyone help me find the gravestone of Mary Jane Brotherton not Wilkinson. Born 1902 (varies on some searches) died 1929 buried in Wooler Northumberland.

Thanks

This newspaper announcement of her death shows that she was 28 when she died.

It is highly likely St Mary's Church, Wooler.

However, I have found her baptism in the 'Select Births and Christenings 1538-1975' database showing that her baptism took place at Doddington (St Mary and St Michael) so it is possible that she was buried there.

Her baptism (in case you do not have it) is as follows:

Name: Mary Jane Wilkinson
Gender: Female
Date: 8 January 1900
Baptism Place: Doddington, Northumberland
Father: Thomas Wilkinson
Mother: Dorothy Ann

There is a second entry as well, exactly the same details as above but the date of the baptism is shown as 18 January 1900.

Well found Boo, the inscriptions match the newspaper death announcement and also the names of parents in baptism.

The same photographer has a flicker site. Including the headstone Keithb123 is looking for, he currently has 923 photos of Wooler New Cemetery  and there is a facility to download the original photo by clicking on the icon at the bottom right (looks like a down arrow with a line under it.)

There is a comments box so if anyone does find a photo its possible to send their thanks to the photographer who has put so much work in for what looks like a LOT of years.

As an aside can anyone tell me if this 'new cemetery' is a municipal one or is it, perhaps , an extension of the churchyard?

Boo
