Wedding Banns Alias Used (Mills, Freepance/Cann)
« on: Tuesday 16 February 21 02:03 GMT (UK) »
On October 3rd 1843, Thomas Mills, son of William, and Elizabeth Freepance (have seen Flippance also), daughter of James, married in Milton Lilborne.
Next to Elizabeth and James' names, there is "alias Cann".  Now, I have located a Cann in Wiltshire and the families were from the Milton Lilborne/Easton area so maybe that is the connection.  The name of Cann hasn't been used by my direct line in the US and they LOVED to name their kids after family.
Would be looking at the village of Cann be the next step or it just one of those things that just isn't going to make any sense?

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Have you found James and Elizabeth in the 1841 census, presumably living in Milton, to see which surname they were using at that time?

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

Hi,
Just to add to the search;
There is a William Frippence bapt. 23-7-1837 base-born s/o Sarah in Milton Lilbourne.
Sarah Flippence bapt. 2-8-1818, same parish, d/o John & Mary, Labourer.

Possibly has no bearing on your request but added as one of several ways (about 8 I counted) of surname being recorded in this parish.
