Jules Marion
« on: Tuesday 16 February 21 08:45 GMT (UK) »
Jules Marion married Catherine Snell.
They had many children born in the 1860's and 1870's in Geelong Victoria Australia.
Both Jules(1904) and Catherine(1906) were buried in Geelong.
I am asking if there is anyone able to help identify the parents of Jules. I have checked Victorian BDM's without any luck.
I have not been able to find their birth and marriage dates.
Thanks for you help.
Aussie Boy.

There is a public family tree on ancestry that claims that Julius Leon Baptiste Marion, b France married Catherine Snell in Geelong 21 May 1855, only they were married as Charles Simpson and Jane Stewart? This is supported by son John Napoleon Marions birth being registered as John Napoleon Simpson (MMN Stewart) in 1856.

It’s a tricky one though as Catherine Snell (b Wicklow) arrived in Geelong from Liverpool on 27 Apr 1855 aboard the Epsom, so she would be married just three weeks later under an assumed name?

You may need to purchase the Simpson/Stewart marriage certificate.

That is extremely kind of you Jo and once again so much appreciated.
I'm still curious as to how all of this info. connects with the marriage of Catherine Snell and Jules Leon Baptiste Marion. When checking the births of the children it always gives the mother as Catherine Snell and Jules Marion. I have seen on Ancestry that John Snell and Catherine Smyth were Catherine Snell's parents. My e-mail address is ju_do@ozemail.com.au
I really do thank you sincerely for you tracking down the marriage certificate. You beat me tit.
Kind regards,
Don

Thanks Jo. I'm researching these families for my son-in-law because he has an interest in the Marion line. His grandmother, Margaret Ross(neeMarion) was the daughter of James Marshall Marion who was a son of Catherine Snell and Jules Marion. He was born in Geelong in 1868 and died in Ballarat in 1941.
Or was he a son of Jane Stuart and Charles Simpson??   😕
Our next step is to discover the parents of Jules Leon Baptiste Marion!
Many thanks for the certificate.
Kind regards,Don.
