Birth Certificate
« on: Tuesday 16 February 21 15:26 GMT (UK) »
Im having problems tracing a Birth Certificate
Heres what I know?
NAME: Sarah Ann Chapman
BORN: 1861
PLACE: Mountsorrel, Leicestershire (registration District Barrow On Soar, Leicestershire)
MOTHER: Frances Chapman

It seems she was illegitimate, cant find any father.....the Family History sites bring up a name but on ordering the Certificate it appears incorrect as the mothers name is differant....They both appear in the 1861 Census as a family with the Grandmother....searching the GRO indexes brings up just one match in the far away place of Dover. I ordered the Birth Certificate again only to find the mothers name again wasnt a match as indicated and a father was shown...I have her marriage certificate and Date of Death.......not sure how to progress to find the missing certificate?

Relate exactly what the two birth certificates DO say.

Relate Exactly what the 1861census entry is . Do this from the image, not as an cut &paste.

What record(s) state that Frances is the mother of Sarah Ann?

Pauline

The 1861 census gives Sarah Ann as 5 month old child and her mothers name as Frances

It might imply that, I'm asking exactly how the household appears.

Since the census in 1861 took place on 7 April, I would suggest that the child was born in 1860.

In which case this is the certificate reference from the official GRO website:
Sarah Ann Chapman no mms shown, birth registered Barrow upon Soar RD Vol 7a  page 125

Did you try that one?

Nell
