It's the same on Chrome and Firefox. I'm on  Win10 at the moment and my Mac is off so can't try that.*

As others have asked, which browser are you using, Mckha489?

* I see SB is on a Mac

Just checked via app on phone in case this difference was due to what the Census was being viewed on, but it operates very differently on a phone with none of the options in the new format. However, when I access the findmypast website via safari on my phone I do get the All Pages option and layout suggested by Mckha489.  May work the same on a tablet, just not on a PC or an iMac.

Hi,

I have spoken to FindMyPast about this and been told it is the new viewer being rolled out to all customers. There is no plan at the moment to give the option to disable it permanently as per Ancestry.
But my opinions have been noted for future reference...

So we’re stuck with it?  The tool bar I can cope with but the images at the bottom seem completely unnecessary.

As Guy suspected, they're using the screen width to determine which set of controls to display, either 'desktop' or 'mobile'. The cut-off width is 768px. For those of you using iPads, the controls you see may depend on whether you're using the iPad in portrait or landscape.

For those of us on desktops & laptops, there is a way of hiding the 'filmstrip' using some custom styles, although it generally requires the use of an extension to apply custom styles.

I'm using a small bit of custom styling to push the filmstrip off screen, leaving only the buttons on view; see attached. And another bit of custom styling to restore the filmstrip on mousing over the buttons. I'm also hiding the 'information buttons', because they're pointless.

If anyone wants to know what extension I'm using and the custom styles I'm using, just say, and I'll explain it in detail. It's quite simple though.
