Help me piece Nellie Pagett into the family...
« on: Thursday 18 February 21 15:17 GMT (UK) »
So I am researching the PAGETT family from Birmingham.

Parents WILLIAM PAGETT 1833 married KEZIA TOWNSEND 1834 in Birmingham in 1853.

They go on to have children JAMES, FANNY, FREDRICK, WALBERT, HENRY and THOMAS.

FANNY marries GEORGE TWAMLEY and has children NELLIE, KATE, MAUD/DULCIE and GEORGE.

FREDRICK marries GRACE MIDDLETON and has children WALTER and FREDRICK.

THOMAS marries JESSIE SMITH and has children WILLIAM, HAROLD, JESSIE, FREDRICK, ARCHIBALD, VIOLET, THOMAS, GEORGE, ELSIE, ETHEL and DOROTHY.

Anyway... my question, on the 1891 census, KEZIA is located at 149 Bromsgrove St, Birmingham as a hairdresser. This is her address and occupation for many years previously. She has a 'daughter' on this census called NELLIE PAGETT, 17. I don't believe she ever had a daughter called Nellie, so I'm confused who this Nellie is.

The boarder on this census is WILLIAM WOOD who KEZIA names in her probate records a few years later. WILLIAM also marries NELLIE.

I have located a NELLIE PAGETT with the parents of JOSEPH PAGETT and SELINA DALE, but I have not discovered a JOSEPH or SELINA in the tree so far.

Can anyone help me see where Nellie fits in the tree?

WILLIAM also marries NELLIE.

Do you know when and where they married?  The marriage certificate should tell you who her father was.

Have you got the 1881 census details for Kezia to see who she is with?

Birmingham, but no father record unless I order the actual certificate.

I'm missing the 1881 census.

In 1871 Kezia is with her husband, children and two male hairdressing assistants.

Lost it now  :-[ but there was a birth for Nellie Wood I think had mothers name Dale, will see if I can find it again in case it ties in.

Sorry no forget that it was a different name.

Joseph & Selina's daughter was born 1878.

I have researched William Pagett and Selina Dale, it appears the have Kate Selina, Nellie, Harry, Emma Elizabeth, Jane, Rose and Mary Anne.

William and Nellie have three daughters Doris, Hilda and Irene.

Nellie appears to be the right sort of age, but it’s really puzzling why she is with Kezia and how she fits.

Kezia is located 149 Bromsgrove St, Birmingham most of her adult life. However, I've looked up that address for the 1881 census and she isn't there, there are a number of drapers assistants living there. Maybe she was on her jollies. Kezia is back at the address again by 1891.

I think that your only chance of placing NELLY Pagett into the tree is to purchase the marriage certificate to William Wood.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
