Certificate Proof of False Declaration of age WW1 Attestation
« on: Thursday 18 February 21 17:30 GMT (UK) »
Why would someone be issued with a Certificate proving their False Declaration of Age at Attestation?

What was the Official Age allowed ?

Minimum age was 18.
While he was in he would have been paid which would
be obtaining money under false pretences.
In his case as he was in the army he might try & claim
a pension.
He would have received something similar agreeing that
he had no claim against the Army.Call it crossing the "t's" & dotting the "i's"

I have only once come across a Birth Certificate sent to the Army to prove a False Declaration of age on a WW1 Attestation (non burnt). The soldier in question was underage  however not released from the Army but was sent back to Britain. He then was sent back to France when he reached his full age for service overseas. He was then killed.

I've noticed on many occasions during research whether my own or helping others, men have changed their birth years to enable them to 'join up' which hasn't only been declaring themselves older but also declaring themselves younger...it seems to have been a common thing whatever their reasons.
