What became of their children?
« on: Thursday 18 February 21 23:05 GMT (UK) »
Jeremiah Keating bapt 1836 Fedamore, Limerick, the illegitimate son of Jeffrey Keating and Margaret Dwyer
married 24 July 1864 Manister Limerick
Ellen Sullivan born about 1840, daughter of Patrick Sullivan

Ellen died 14 July 1879 Manister Limerick
Jeremiah died 18 June 1924 Croom Limerick

Their children all born Limerick
Bridget bapt 27 Feb 1867 Fedamore
Margaret born 3 March 1867 Parkaree
Mary born 23 November 1868 Parkaree
Johanna born 20 Nov 1870 Manister
Bridget born 1873 Manister
Michael born 20 Sept 1875 Manister

Mary was the informant on her father's death certificate in 1924 but she's the only one I found any trace of.

The Michael Keating, stoker, in the 1901 and 1911 censuses is not the right one - he was too young to marry Margaret Bourke in 1890. This Michael was the son of Michael Keating according to his marriage cert.

Any leads gratefully received :-)

Many thanks, Patrick. May I ask how you found them? I did think of wading through the registers but soon realised it was going to take some time.

My 2X great grandfather was from Limerick and his older brother was named Jeremiah as well. I recall reading at John Grenham's blog that Jeremiah was a name that was only found in Southern Ireland.

It only took a few minutes as I started from the death you provided for Jeremiah. I then searched through the deaths and marriages for Croom for any Keating. I looked for the first names you provided and years of birth and compared those and did the math in my head and got those results in about 5 min.

Brilliant - thanks for that. I didn't think to limit my search to Croom - I thought the children might have moved away or even emigrated.

Not at all correct. 1911 census- does not include variants such as Darby:
Co. Antrim- 74 entries for Jeremiah as Christian name
Co.Armagh- 16
Co.Down- 22
Co.Fermanagh- 12
Co.Londonderry- 31
Co.Tyrone- 20
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

"You’ll almost never find a Cornelius or a Jeremiah or a Bartholomew or a Hanorah outside Munster."

I stand corrected. I have seen a few people named Cornelius outside of Munster as well.
