Mrs D McKirdy death Greenock
« on: Friday 19 February 21 00:55 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to identify the bodies in a family lair in Greenock (Lair No 68).  One is a Mrs D McKirdy, buried 3 March 1859.  The problem, of course, is: does her first name start with the "D", or does her husband's first name start with "D".  Can anyone help with this one?

If I recall correctly, from my own experience, husband would be 'D'?

I can't be too sure the husband's initial was given in my own case (I'd need to check) but women were often referred to by their husbands' forename e.g. Mrs George Oswald or such like.

Edit...This was how I found out my 2 x g g/mother had a half sister (among many other half siblings), I just can't remember exactly how it was worded although I'm almost certain she was 'Mrs Robert Paterson'  :-\

Hi.
If the death was in 1859 there should be a statutory death registration made and a death certificate would have been issued.
Have you checked for McKirdy deaths on Scotlands People for that year?

Looby :)

Do you have any other info. regarding the plot?

You say 'one is a Mrs D McKirdy' i.e. who are the others (names/dates) which may help us identify her?

I've attached a list of the 1859 Greenock deaths index, do you have an age for 'Mrs D' which would help although the names of others are just as important in trying to work it out?

Where in Greenock was the burial?
