Walled garden in Penn Wolverhampton
« on: Friday 19 February 21 10:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi.  I was born in Upper Penn , Wolverhampton and lived in the vicinity of Mount Road.  As a child we used to visit a derelict house with a walled garden, which I think was on Mount Road between Manor Road and Muchall Road.  We think it was demolished in the mid to late  60’s?  I was wondering if anyone remembers this house or has any information about it...possibly photos?  Many thanks.

Welcome to Rootschat

Have you contacted the Records Office.  If the house was of local interest they may have a photo before it was demolished

Could it have been Penn Manor
http://www.historywebsite.co.uk/articles/streets/namesm.htm
Penn Manor, constructed about 1851, was a large building with three gables, having a huge walled garden. It stood on the corner of Penn Road and Manor Road, opposite the present Medical Centre. etc ....  Demolished c1950's

Slightly away from Mount Road was Carlton House (located where Sandhurst Drive is now).  That was demolished in the 1960s.

These people https://lostwolverhampton.co.uk/ might also be able to help.

Thanks for the posts.  I did wonder whether it was Penn Manor, but it’s location was more distant than I recalled.  Following some information on Facebook we think it was possibly Muchall house which was on the corner of Muchall road and Mount Road.  This house  was then converted into a care home and ultimately demolished in 1990’s to make way for flats I believe.  So maybe the mystery is solved!  Thanks for your help. 😊
