Not the easiest to read, and one word is still in doubt ...

Thomas Backshall

Thome Backshall nup(er) de Hailing

in Com(itatu) South'ton def(uncti), gen(erosi)[?] &c Ad

adm(ini)strand(um) bona iura et credit(a) e(iu)sd(em)

defuncti de bene &c vigore com(m)issi(onis) iurat(e)

On the tenth day* a grant was issued to Margaret Backshall, relict of Thomas Backshall, lately of Hayling in the county of Southampton, deceased, gentleman[?] etc., to administer the goods, rights and credits of the same deceased, well etc.; sworn by power of commission.

* The month and year should be given in a preceding entry.

Hi Vallom,

I am wondering if you could offer any advice as I am also researching the Backshell family. I am really struggling to link records to the correct name as there are several John Backshell's within the 17-1800's and I feel like I'm moving in circles trying to figure out which records refer to which person. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
