Hi,
My husband is a Bateman in New Zealand. His DNA 4/5th cousins come from England Westmorland, America and Australia. We are trying to find the ancestors of William Foster Bateman born in Kent somewhere around 1840 and died in Cromwell New Zealand. He would be my husband’s Great Grandfather.

You have posted on the Westmorland Board but say that William was from Kent.  Can you confirm the locality as the Kent & Westmorland counties are quite a distance apart.  Did William have a connection to Westmorland?

The only William Foster Bateman birth on freebmd is 1856 in London and he remained in England

I can see a birth registration for a William Foster Bateman - 1856 - London City RD - mother's maiden name is Adland.

There is a marriage for William Foster Bateman - 28 August 1879 - Croydon, Surrey

William Foster Bateman, 23, Bachelor, Merchant.  Father:  Henry (deceased), Merchant
Annie Maria Meigh Rae, 20, Spinster.  Father:  Eben, Clerk in Holy Orders

Assumptions:

1:  Assuming that Carole has located the correct marriage in NZ, I would suggest that you purchase a copy of it.

2:  Assuming that NZ marriage certificates are similar to England and Wales certificates, then you, hopefully, will see at least who William names as his father.

England, Westmorland: Oliver Bateman 1740 married Ann Foster, John Bateman 1761-1822 married Mary Sanford 1759, Miles Bateman 1801-1869 married Elizabeth Pattison 1795, Thomas Bateman 1833-1907 born Westmorland died Larimar Colorado.

Thomas Bateman 1614-1669 Born England Died America, Rest from  America : Eleazer Bateman 1664-1751, Joseph Bateman 1699-1764, Eleazer Ensign Bateman 1731-1790 Zadock  Bateman 1762-1842 married Sarah Putman, daughter and son of Zadock:Lucy Bateman 1775-1837, Calvin Bateman 1794-1856
