I'd be half inclined to get the death certificate to make sure it is the right one.  Cost 7 as a pdf from the GRO website.

It seems a little odd that a second name of Wilson appears but no suggestion of its use anywhere else.

Yes, the initial does seem odd.

I have not seen the name 'Wilson' in any Index.
The GRO no longer seems to offer the pdf service, so Certs cost 11

I've just clicked on the pdf option and it takes me to the order page.  You need to click on the little dot on the left and you get the option of certificate or pdf.  You then click on the pdf option and you get taken to the order page.

You say his gravestone says he is 69, is his wife buried with him as that would confirm you have the right death

Just looking at the 1901 census for Edward I now see he did not move far after he married.  A few doors down is Mary Blackmore who he lived with prior to his marriage and between them there is a Frank Batchelor and family including his mother Mary.  Have you eliminated this Batchelor family as being related to Edward

Not yet. There are a lot of Batchelors moving up and down Regent's Place/Terrace in Bradford upon Avon over time. It's a bit like trying to unknot macrame!
