James Cheyney, Yeoman of Aldworth, Berks

Does anyone know anything about James Cheyney, Yeoman of Aldworth, Berks?

I'm trying to find out as much as I can about him - still don't know who his parents were, but I think he was born around the end of the 17th century or start of the 18th century.
He married Grace Wilson, (date and place unknown)
He had 4 sons, William, (1729-) James (1730-), Thomas (1733-) and John Wilson, (1731-1803) and one daughter, Mary (1735-).
His Will is dated 1757 and exists in the Berkshire Record Office.
Does anyone know if you have to pay to see Wills in the BRO?

Looking on Ancestry,

James CHEYNEY and his wife Grace
first child was christened 30 March 1729 in Burbage, Wiltshire (which is approx 30 miles away from Aldworth)...

May be Grace had family there.

? Her surname may not be Wilson,  as my material line carried the middle name BURROWS - through many generations.

?

Was there only one CHEYNEY family of Aldworth, if not

Eliz CHEYNEY - had a daughter christened there on the 24 October 1756 - called Mary

I don't think you have to pay to see the wills if you visit.  But since it is closed at the moment, perhaps it might be worth considering ordering a copy instead, depending on your budget.  Without knowing how many pages it is, it might be a bit expensive 

Just looking a the Record Office catalogue, I see that the family were tenants at Pibworth Farm 1732-93.

There are several Cheney wills in that area online at the National Archives which you should be able to access for free at the moment. The 1763 Hungerford one is the closest. See-

There also was a Thomas Cheney Esq of Aldworth who caused a bit of trouble in 1608 and ended up in the Star Chamber. You will have to go to the Nat Archives to see the details of the case but it could be quite revealing:-

list of names - one says, copy wills of William CHEYNE, Viscount Newhaven, 1728.....  -  and later on

Lady Gower was the daughter and co-heiress of the Earl of Thanet, and a grand-daughter of Henry......  etc....  and relatives apearing in the family papers deposited here include her mother's sister, the Duchess of Montagu, and first cousin William CHEYNE 2nd Vicount Newhaven.

Viscount of Newhaven, Will, 1728 is on Ancestry and talks about his wife Gertrude Viscountess Newhaven 1730.  He died without Issue.
