Hi Sandra

I am looking at the passenger list now and cant see a Thomas there so I dont understand where the Thomas came in

Because one of the standard questions asked of a passenger entering the USA was the name and address of their next of kin in the country they had come from.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

OK thanks but I read this as being part of the passenger list and as I have it open now I cant see any mention of Thomas

Yes I viewed on ancestry. I don't know what the format is on find my past - could you turn to another page perhaps ?
Page 1 on ancestry is 1 - 13 and page 2 is 14 - 36


Column 12 - The name and complete address of the nearest relative or friend in the coujntry from whence came.

No need to faff about with Anc or FindMyPast - go for the original document at source https://heritage.statueofliberty.org/passenger-result
