Second pair of eyes please
« on: Monday 22 February 21 15:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi there. I wonder if someone might help me. I have an ancestor in my tree by the name of Susan Weaver, born in St Dunstans, Stepney to Robert & Susan in 1819.

I believe that I then have her marrying a James Pearce in Hammersmith in 1850, Fathers name Robert and witness James Weaver, which was the name of her brother. Looking at James Pearce with a father called James with the same occupation brought me to a James Pearce born in Hammersmith in 1824 to James & Martha.

I believed through my research that James & Susan had a child called Eliza, born in 1862, but this would have made my Susan 43 at the time so I have my doubts.

The problem I have here is that at some point in 1852, the same James travels to Australia with his wife 'Elizabeth' and it also appears that he dies there. So again, this very likely rules him out.

I have obviously gone wrong somewhere. I wondered if anyone could find any further records for my Susan Weaver & James Pearce as I have tied myself up in knots with it and can no longer see where I have gone wrong?

Thank you in advance.

Beccy

Have you checked 1851 and 1861 census to find them? Both census should indicate where each of them were born plus other information which might give you a clue as to if you have the correct people or not

Yes, I think that I have found them on the 1851. Actually it estimates his birth year as 1814, which gives me a bit more to go on now. They appear to be back in the East End in 1851, having been married in Hammersmith in 1850 (if these are the same people). https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=8860&h=419693&tid=&pid=&queryId=1cd4071bb24139955066fd4aee80076a&usePUB=true&_phsrc=UII8550&_phstart=successSource

Not too sure if you are able to view it, but does it appear that James' birthplace is Westminster?

Hi Beccy

That birth you mention from 1862 has a different mother's maiden name to your Susan:

Mother's Maiden Surname: ROBINSON
PEARCE, ELIZABETH  MARY
GRO Reference: 1862  S Quarter in WEST LONDON  Volume 01C  Page 34

What are the details on this? What ship and date did they travel out on?

It may be a mistake was made James' wife's name.

What details have you got for a possible death for this James Pearce in Australia?
