MaxD.

Thanks for taking the time to look into this and apologies for my slow response.

Interesting findings. I really don't know what's going on here. Perhaps the service number was incorrect on the birth certificate - but it's more than a couple of digits away from any possibilities on the tracer cards so unlikely.

I will check with his son, who has made the application, whether there is a response yet. I'll let you know the outcome.

I finally got a look at the daughters birth certificate.

On 12 July 1940 George Lockwood is described as "Lance Bombardier No 1531686 R.A."

Maybe the number was written incorrectly or maybe that number is missing from the records for some reason. There has been no response to the service record application so far - not even cashed the cheque. Covid delays I guess.

We’re toldthat the Lockwood in the attestation record is not the man.
There appear to be no Lockwoods with a number that could be mixed up.
Dilemma, if the application quoted the birth certificate number and name and dob and the these don’t all match at Glasgow then they won’t research the discrepancy and will reject the application. If the application quoted the dob and name without the service number which isn’t necessary anyway, then all should be well.

I didn't do the application myself but I believe that the name, DOB and service number would all have been included.

If it is rejected is it possible to make a further application with name and DOB only?
