Arbroath and St Vigeans seem to be a black hole for James Pat(t)ersons who were born in the 1820s.

I have been looking for the death of James Pat(t)erson, son of Thomas Patterson and Christina Foreman, who was baptised in St Vigeans on 20 June 1827, married Margaret Grant Bremner on 10 October 1857 in Arbroath, had four children, two of whom died young, was widowed on 15 January 1896 and was living alone at 12 Baker's Wynd in Arbroath in 1901, aged 72. He was variously described as a labourer, stevedore and stone-breaker.

So if anyone comes across 'my' James Pat(t)terson while looking for your Alexander Paterson's father, I'd be very interested.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hello Monica

Yes, we had all those. It was a matter of knowing whether he was stating he was Married or not. Turns he was stating he was married , so the conclusion is they went their separate ways, looks like the kids stayed in touch as it was his daughters Jessies Husband Alex Paterson that registered his death.

Than you for all your help.

Much appreciated
Karen

Possibly still at 12 Bakers Wynd on 1905 VR.
His wife was buried at Arbroath Abbey ?

Could this be James ?

If that matches the death on SP in Arbroath 1905 then age at death is well out(65)
Perhaps you have looked at this already  :-\
