Doneraile Buttevant Burke Fitzgerald O'Brien
« on: Tuesday 23 February 21 23:56 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Am new so I apologise for information overload.
My mother was born in buttevant in 1947. All I know of this side of the family is what she told me and what I have managed to find online records.

My great grandparents were John burke /bourke and abina (Abby) O'Brien.
They had Catherine/Kathleen  born 1918, Mary and John (jack). Mary died at 14 jack never married and I believe stayed in the family home. Have the land to the neighbour.
I have only found Mary's death cert. Not jack's birth. I have found a Catherine burke birth in April 1918 but this is confis6 as we were always told her name was Kathleen Philomena and she only used Catherine when they went north.
Abina died in childbirth with Mary approx 1922 I cannot find a cert.
Abinas parents were Patrick and Mary O'Brien (nee Fitzgerald from what I can read). However in their marriage cert name is just Brien. 1898.

John burke and his brother Patrick married sisters. John married Abina and Patrick married?.... I have no knowledge of Patrick's family after this even though the brothers lived next door. As my grandmother Catherine left to work as a servant in England in 1930 we have no info. They returned to cork but then moved to Belfast later on.

I'd like to find more info about the O'Brien's Burke's and Fitzgeralds of mallow/doneraile/buttevant. I seem to have hit a wall.
John's father was also John.

Goodness me sorry.

Abina and all family are from county cork Ireland.

From what I know there may have been a sister of Abina or John you moved to England. Everyone else stayed in Ireland.

Thanks

Do you mean her parents married in 1898?

There is this birth - Abbie -1892

Patrick Brien married Mary Fitzgerald on 15 April 1878 in Doneraile RC Church. His father Patrick was a labourer. Her father Andrew? was a carpenter. Patrick and Mary both living in Doneraile.

Hi

Many thanks for replies.
Yes I couldn't make out Abinas father I thought it said Arthur.
The parents married in 1878 I have the marriage cert.
Mary did die in a fire, she was drying her hair by the fire, it caught and she ran outside she was only 14. My grandma was very sad.

I cannot find a death certificate of Abina who died while giving birth to mary. I also cannot find the address which was the same address until my uncle Jack (Catherine's brother) lived in until he died. I cannot find his death cert either.
Unfortunately I lost my mum 3 years ago and all of what she told me was word of mouth and we hadn't visited cork since 1992.
