Looking for Burial, Isabella Kitt
« on: Wednesday 24 February 21 16:51 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with this please.

Free BMD has the death of Isabella Kitt age 17 - March Q - 1886 - Whitechapel RD.
I cannot find a burial on FindMyPast Familysearch or Ancestry. The surname can be problematical; often Kell, Kett, Kits, Kitts,

I'm hoping burial record will at least give her abode, I might be able to rule her out before sending for the certificate.

I don't have her in 1881 - can't find her anywhere.  They are an odd family, seemingly no birth registrations or baptisms.
She's not with her family, although could be in service but ....

CENSUS 1871 - Indexed with an odd name - looks like Kause..however surname begins with K, letter is same as in occcupation Hawker and the K in Kent...at 5 Pheobe Court, Poplar
GEORGE  - 25 a Hawker born Kent Plumstead
Margaret wife 27 b Plumstead Kent
Margaret d age 5 b Poplar
ISBELLA d age 3 b Limehouse
Ann d age 1 yr b Limehouse

There was a family story that Isabella died in an accident with a lighted lamp, and died of burns.
Sister Ann or Mary Ann, named one of her children Isabella in memory.  However the name Isabella does come down through the generations of this family.

By 1881 George has a new 'wife' Catherine or Kate - Margaret having died in 1875 and the family are at Perseverance Place St George in the East with Catherine's widowed father Jeremiah Carthy,  two of her siblings, and her child, also Mary, from her first marriage.

not helping with Isabella but George did marry Catherine. She was a widow.
First marriage Catherine McCarthy sept qtr 1873 Whitechapel vol 1c pg 835 with Dennis Loftus on the same page.
Banns were read at St Dunstan & All Saints, Stepney Oct 20, 27 & Nov 3 1878 for George Kitt widower of 5 York Place & Catherine Loftus widow of 6 York Place but they didn't marry until sept 1880 Malling vol 2a pg 883.

Thank you osprey,   :)  I can never seem to find anything on familysearch, I don't know why  ::)  I did have the banns, no idea why they waited so long to get married...

Our George is the only one in the family who likes to make things difficult  ::)

Received the pdf for Isabella. Aged 17 Isabella died 23rd January 1886 at the London Hospital.
Cause of death 'violent shock' 'burns accidental'.
She is our Isabella, the later family thought she was much younger when she died,  it has brought closure to the story, no longer just a story but a true tragic accident.

It's good that you have the details despite the tragic circumstances.
