seems to say he is from the Lady Ystern (Western?) Parish and she is from the St Andrew's Church parish. I don't know if that gives us any clues.

It’s Lady Yester’s parish. Those look like Church of Scotland records, so Presbyterian.

Thanks, this is all useful. I emailed the regimental association but the message bounced back because their mailbox is full. So perhaps no-one is monitoring it.

Might be 'Lady Yesters'

From Wiki
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Yester%27s_Kirk

This is a Church of Scotland church.

Oooops didn't see we had turned the page.....will leave as it has a Wiki link to more info.

Their site does reek of neglect. Was probably run by former members of the regiment, who are now too old to do so, given how long since it was disbanded.

That said, access to the English (!! ha ha) NA records is free during Covid. Have you looked for what they hold on the Midlothian Yeomanry Cavalry?

What rank was your ancestor - should be mentioned if the regiment was specified.  Officers will appear in printed lists, gazettes, etc.

Which would in turn explain why online records have not turned up in Dublin.

I had a brief look at the Archives. They have a couple of things on the Midlothian Yeomanry Cavalry, but nothing to help me. There is no reason to think the father was an officer, the marriage just says "Robert Archibald Middlothian Cavalry Lady Yester's Parish". The family were of fairly modest means, not landowners or anything. But this has all helped, and confirming the religion explains why searching in Ireland for the birth has been fruitless.

Thanks,
Geoff

But recall, this just means that Dublin Presbyterian records aren't online, not that they don't exist.
Sounds like you should contact a Presbyterian congregation or two in Dublin? In the news enough these days....
