Parry Family 1896 Cairns
« on: Saturday 27 February 21 01:17 GMT (UK) »
The Parry Family ca. 1896, Cairns, North Queensland.
I am hoping someone could do a bit of clean up of this photo.
Martha has some dirty / discoloured marks across her face and torso.
Thanks in advance.

Full size but I've had to compress it to get it below the 500kb limit.

A small version as I hate only seeing half an image

(I'm fond of Parrys as my grandmother was a Parry  :) )

Add - I've  noticed that there are slight Image halos around the jackets of the two sons where they show against the pale background. This is caused by over sharpening when they were originally scanned. I've not removed them as this can cause some blurring but will do so if you wish.

Thank you very much to all - Japeflakes, Gadget and Trishanne/Pat.
That is excellent work. How nice and clean everyone looks now, and what a difference it makes.

Gadget - Thomas Parry was born in Holywell, Flintshire. He arrived in Australia in his 20s, and ended up a sugar cane farmer in north Queensland. I always think he looks like a kind man – he has gentle eyes.
Gadget – When I zoom in, I can see what you mean by the slight halo on the boys' jackets. It does not bother me, and I don’t think I would have noticed if you had not mentioned it. Thanks for your detailed eye.

Neale, they probably never had any contact if your family was near Cairns all the time but… My great grandfather, John McGregor (1852-1949) arrived in Australia at the end of October 1883 with his family and a load of milling machinery and went to Pioneer Plantation, Brandon near Ayr where he helped to set up a steam powered mill and train the locals. (Interesting aside: he was engaged by George Russell Drysdale, the grandfather of (George) Russell Drysdale, the painter.) He was there about 18 months before going to Sydney where he drove trains till he retired.

And here’s my late go at a restore.

Peter, Your restores are never "late", and they are always welcome and always appreciated. Many thanks for your work.
Also thanks for your little note on John McGregor. This branch of the Parry family remained in the Cairns and Babinda area of the far north.
