Registering DNA kits
« on: Saturday 27 February 21 12:03 GMT (UK) »
I asked my kids for an Ancestry DNA kit for Christmas -- which they duly provided.
But they also provided a second kit for my husband.

We are now getting round to registering and submitting the tests.
Mine is fine -- I can register it to my account.

But my husband has not got an Ancestry account (I am researching his family for him)
Can I register his kit to my account as well, or do I have to set up a separate Ancestry account for him?

Nowadays, since the data protection act he has to have his own account.

However, when the results are back, providing you have him on your tree, you can link his results to him on your tree - he does not need his own.

You will need to set up a separate account for his test - this is free.  If you intend to be the manager of your husband's test results, this explains how to do it:

https://support.ancestry.co.uk/s/article/Assigning-a-Manager-to-Your-AncestryDNA-Test

You will then be able to do all the things that you can do with your own test, without needing to sign into the other account to do so.

Slight correction to Pheno's post - any other test you manage doesn't need to be attached to your own tree, just attached to a tree that you control.
