There is an Alice Douglas who lived in Sedbergh in 1871 - believe she was widowed.  Maiden name would be Wilson.

Nothing surprises. It doesn't look like the info on the marriage certificate of Thomas Mason born Sheffield is correct either.

No birth for Thomas Francis Mason in 1873 (should be June)

There was an Ulverston birth for a Thomas Mason 1873 - but mothers maiden name was Mason which wouldn't quite be correct.

Hi Sarah. You make a valid point on the birth year for Thomas F Mason. On the census it indicates 1873 but on the marriage reg in 1895 indicates he is 23 which would make his birth year 1872 so marriage registration could have false information. I say that because other family records reflect his birth year as 1873.
It looks like you have the right John and Alice Mason but again where is Thomas during this time. Is it possible he was a child from Alices past and only took his fathers back name once he came to Canada??
