Frizwith Collier
« on: Tuesday 02 March 21 06:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I’m trying to help a friend with their family history and was hoping someone here could help?

I’m looking for the identity of Frizwith Collier’s parents as well as any additional info you may find.

According to my friend, Frizwith was born about 1795 in Cricklade, Wiltshire. Around 1818 she married Robert Jordan and was recorded living in Longcot, Berkshire in 1841. Apparently, she drowned on the 29th of April 1857, aged 62.

Kind Regards

Hi, Frizwith was my gtgtgtgrandmother, I'm afraid I have been unable to find her parents. There are tree's on various sites that have parents for her but I think it is mostly unproven.

There are two short articles in the Reading Mercury

Sat 2nd May 1857
"Drowning.
On Wednesday last, a poor woman named Jordan, whose husband keeps a public house close to the Lock, in the parish of Longcot, was found drowned: it is not known if she met her death by accident, or whether it was her own act. We shall give the result of the inquest next week."

Sat 9th May 1857
"Longcot.
An inquest was held on Thursday last, before W.D. Wasbrough Esq, on the body of the poor woman named Jordan, whose death was noticed in our last number. No evidence being adduced to show whether it was by accident or design, a verdict of 'Found drowned' was returned."

Cheers Youngtug,

I've seen a family tree on ancestry which suggests her parents were John Collier and Mary Simkins. Friswith is a reoccurring name in this particular tree which is hopeful. I might send the owner a message and see what they have to say.

Hopefully they will have proof that it is the same Frizwith. It seem's to be a name used in the Collier family in that part of Wiltshire/Gloucestershire

Just for reference: Cricklade St Sampson

When Robert JORDAN and Frizwith COLLIER of this Parish, married 8 February 1818 - witnesses were:

Mary HERBERT  and Thomas COLLIER

----

Thomas COLLIER, Batchelor - of this Parish married Martha BORKER by Licence - 17 November 1824

witnesses: Thomas ROGERS and Mary MILES

----
Looking at the Cricklade St Sampson marriages

When, William STAFFORD married Elizabeth SIMPKINS -  4 December 1814 - the witnesses were

William ROGER and Frizwith COLLIER

and the next entry, when William MERRIT - married Sarah BROAD - 15 February 1815 - witnesses were William STONE, and Frizwith COLLIER.

At least it proves, Frizwith was living in Cricklade - 4 years before her marriage.

---

? There is a burial at Cricklade St Sampson - 25 November 1814 of

Anne COLLIER - abode: Lidiard Millicent (aged 78 years).

This abode is 5 miles from Cricklade - so must be a family connection.

May be the earlier deaths at Cricklade have more COLLIER's etc.

there's an earlier marriage in Cricklade which could be connected to the Herbert witness
25 May 1797 William Herbert of Marston Maisey and Friswith Collier otp, witnesses James Clements, Ann Collier and John Godwin Clerk - he may be the parish clerk.

She may be the Frizwith Collier baptised 20 Nov 1763 in Minety daughter of William & Ann

There are earlier Friswith Colliers in Minety
daughter of John & Ann baptised in 1741

and a burial in 1726
