Now, a new angle. James was born in Co Down (per 1901 Census). On 4 July 1884 a Robert Irvine married a Rachel Scott from Lower Ballykine in 1st Ballynahinch Presbyterian Church. On 4 Dec 1886 a son James was born at Lisburn St, Ballynahinch. His sister, four years younger, was born in Belfast.

Looking at reply #1, when Robert married Eliza Jane in 1894, his father is down as Robert Irvine.

Your marriage (1884) has Robert's father as James Irvine.

Quote
We know from 1901 Census that James had a sister Eliza Jane who was four years younger than him. At that time the siblings were living at Blaney Street with Hanna family - presumably brother of James' step-mother.

Eliza Jane Irvine born in 1889 at 17 Blaney Street, Belfast.    MMN Hanna

This leads to the following:
Robert Irvine married Eliza Jane Hanna 8) in 1882 in Lisburn cathedral. His father was Robert.

James Ervine (MMN Hanna) born 1885 at Sloan Street, Lisburn. This is the Co Down side of the city.

They then move to Belfast where Eliza Jane was born.
The death of Robert's first wife Eliza Jane in Belfast in 1894.

Kiltaglassan. Great work, you have cut through the confusion. I was blindsided by the fact that Robert's two wives had the same names. My best bet is that James is buried in Annahilt - sometimes referred to as Annahilt Glebe. Sadly his name does not figure in the burial records but this is not unusual in cases where the deceased came from outside the parish.
