Greenwood / Hill Child and immigration puzzle
« on: Thursday 04 March 21 05:32 GMT (UK) »
Hello, this is my first post. I have been stumped for a couple weeks trying to find the answer to this puzzle about my great great grandfathers mother and father situation.
Here's what I want to know:
Who is my GGGrandfather Edgar Percival Greenwood's, aka "Percy", father? and what happened to him?

Here's what I think I know:
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LZFP-PJ3

I am pretty sure this is his mother, from Draft Records and Christening records.

It looks like she was born in Northamptonshire England in 1866. I can't find marriage or immigration records to match (tried some military, death, and prison stuff but didn't get anywhere), but she shows up a widow in the USA 1920 census with her son Edgar my GGGrandfather a widow. I can't find much in the way of verifying that Edgars father is Frederick (but it looks good as my dad and grandfathers names are both Frederick)

My dad, and Auntie and the rest of the family have nothing to add either...

I've been hoping to use a family history center nearby but can't get a hold of any of them around me on Los Angeles CA.

Advice and help is appreciated in advance,
Thanks,
Jeff

There's a Frederick Greenwood who died in 1892 in Philadelphia.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JKQ5-79D  There is also one who died in 1914 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JXZS-P7X  Maybe those are possibilities?

If you can find Edgar & his mother in 1900 or 1910 census, that might narrow down the time frame.

There's an Edgar Greenwood of the right age in the 1900 census in Hempstead, New York as a boarder at the Hines Institute.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MSJD-2LY  I'm not sure what that was, but if his father had died, his mother might have needed to send him somewhere so she could work.

Why have you picked that particular Clara when in the 1915 census she gives a birth of July 1865?

(Of course they often got it wrong back then, so you may well be right, I just wondered what your other evidence was)
