I thought the 17 years' suffering sounded medical...(which would make a long sea voyage 'inadvisable'.) Wonder what happened to the 10? At least the Scalby school children had copies of Pilgrim's Progress!

The letter from Robert Turnbull to his niece (Robert Hope's sister) was 1887, before the Golden Wedding; I made a mistake typing the date.

Robert Hope's letter from Melbourne (to his sister) was August 1864.
