Was the letter written in 1887?
Have I got that right?

Why would it be inadvisable for her to return to England?

17 years seems a long time to be "suffering" and I wonder if it was to do with a marital problem occurring 17 years before her death.  A couple of years before the letter and the gift of 10 pounds.

Yes, the tree is mine. I do feel sorry for Robert H. No wonder his last letter was kept, presumably by his sister, my gt-grandmother.
