Frederick Samuel Burnett b1885 d1953 Brighton Sussex
« on: Thursday 04 March 21 11:49 GMT (UK) »
Really stumped on this one without ordering the marriage certificate  :-\

I have a Frederick Samuel Burnett born (as shown on the 1939 National Register) on 10th March 1885.  He is living at 51 Whitehawk Crescent, Brighton with his wife Daisy and 3 children.

He died in the Brighton area in 1953 and states that based on age at death he was born in 1885.

The last detail I have on him specifically was that he was living at 3 Totland Road, Brighton in 1920 on the Electoral Roll with others at the address Cuthbert and Mabel Pont (maiden name Barnes) with Mabel at this address in 1911 when she was Mabel Barnes.

Frederick married Daisy V Brayne in Q1 of 1915 in Brighton, Sussex but apart from this its like he's a ghost on 1891, 1901 or 1911 census and no birth registration shows for a Frederick Samuel Burnett in 1885 either  :-\   really stuck here  :-X

Any help or ideas (other than ordering the marriage certificate) would be welcome!  Thanks

Hi,

In 1911 it looks like he is a servant at The Old Steine Hotel in Brighton but his forenames have been switched round - you can see the census on Family Search.

I'll see if I can find him earlier.

Liz

ADDED: but this would mean he was born c1876

I wonder if he wanted to make himself closer to Daisy's age? He's a few years older as it is? If she always believed that was is birth date it would explain why his death registration matches the 1939 register. Of course - it could be a complete red herring!

Certificate has arrived but no more answers it appears!

Frederick Samuel Burnett is listed with this name and married on 1st March 1915 at the Registry Office in Brighton.

He is listed as aged 29 (b 1885/1886) and he was a Bachelor and worked as a Clock Packer at a Warehouse and was living at the time of the marriage at 35 George Street, Brighton.  His Father is listed as Joseph Burnett who is listed as a Coach Builder.

On searching 1891 and 1901 census for a Joseph Burnett there is only 1 that appears anywhere in.....Brighton  :) :) however 1901 there is no Frederick  :(

1891 there is a Samuel as Liz-in-sussex alluded to but he is Samuel J as much as I want it to look like an F! and also born around 1875.

So personally back to square one...ish - anyone any ideas?  I reckon the Joseph Burnett listed as a Coach Builder on 1891 and 1901 census could be the Joseph mentioned on the marriage cert but still doesn't explain where Frederick was or ties in with him  :-X :-X :'(

Thanks
