London property about 1883
« on: Thursday 04 March 21 23:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm trying to find out if Edward L Yencken owned property in London from 1882-1884 +.
He was born in England left for Australia.
Married in January 1882, left in about March to return to London to set up his business from 9 New Broad Street London.
During this time he is believed to have renovated a home.
He returned to Australia in November 1882 but travelled back and forth a lot over the coming years.

My questions are where would I find any information re a) 9 New Broad Street at this time?
Was it just an office?
b) Is there any way of finding out if or where he might have purchased a house without knowing an address?

I'm in Australia so not up with UK data.
Thanks

Check the newspapers.  I think it must be offices at least after the Bakers went.  Was known as Dashwood House. All sorts of people giving the address.

1878.  Lots of adverts for Messrs W Hill & Son, Bakers to the Queen
1880.   A solicitor A.B. Mackreth
1882   Chas Bell an Architect
           Grand Trunk Railway Offices
1885. dash wood House, 9 New Broad street London offices of Thomas Moy a coal and coke merchant

Thanks, Mckha489,
This is great, maybe he did some work on the Dashwood House its self?

I'll check the newspapers for the time
