The Crown Tavern - 57 Rupert Street, Haymarket
« on: Saturday 06 March 21 08:01 GMT (UK) »
Good morning all. I have come across this interesting document in my search for any evidence that an ancestor of mine existed!  ;D

I am struggling to find mention of him in any census records, but I have discovered this and wonder if anyone had any smart way of finding out more about the Crown Tavern or any of the elements here. Now my Robert is listed as a deceased Labourer on his Son, Henry's marriage certificate in 1859 so is a waiter in 1842 too much of a reach?

From what I can tell about the document (about 8 pages long and these can be scrolled through), it is the Will of Sarah Weaver who died in 1842, making her Grandson sole executor. He has a brother called Abraham who inherits a watch. Clearly can't tell what age this Robert is and I can't seem to find him on the 1841 census. Is it possible to search the census anywhere else by address?

I have access to Ancestry and Family Search.

Anything I might have missed here and any clever ways that I might find out anything more about this Sarah?

There is a Robert WEAVER bap 26 Sep 1819 at St Martin in the Fields, parents William (fishmonger) and Sarah Maria. They also have an Abraham bap 17 Oct 1825 at St Giles in the Fields Holborn. Can't see them on a census yet. Will look to see if they link to grandmother Sarah.  :-\

Modified to add:
Abraham (25, goldsmith) appears on the 1851 with widowed mother Sarah (53) at St Giles in the Fields
HO/107/1509 pg34

And in 1841 Abraham (15, goldsmith app.) with mother Sarah (charwoman, 40) in Princes Court, St Martin in the Fields.
HO 107/739/2 pg 27

Thank you! Think this clearly rules my Robert out! His son Henry was born in 1826 :) Have found that this Sarah was born in 1761 from what I can see.

- It was very much a stretch as I can't find my Robert really anywhere on a census. A classic case of clutching at straws. Many thanks.

Is this your Henry's baptism:
At St Dunstan, Stepney on 17 Dec 1826, parents Henry Robert (labourer) and Susan of Mile end Old Town?

Ah! So this is in London?
There is also a Haymarket and a Rupert Street in Bristol!

It does help if you mention the town/city :D

And, I don't have access to Ancestry, so I can't see your attachment.

Yes. This is him. I have been after a second pair of eyes on my findings as I feel I might have gone wrong somewhere along the line. Below is what I (think I) know and I have been at it with this pair for literally years and have never got any further than this! 😢

I am using Ancestry and Family Search for my research but there may be undiscovered records elsewhere I guess.

My proven direct ancestor is Henry Weaver who married Ann Hill in 1859 - They were living together and had children for many years before that. Their marriage record states that Henry's father was Robert Weaver (deceased) and that both Henry and Ann were approx 30 years old when the wed. An interesting fact about them is that they died on the exact same day (bot not of anything interesting)!

Looking at the relevant birth record at the time, I find Henry Weaver born in Mile End to (Henry) Robert Weaver and Susan in 1826.

I then find a marriage record for Robert Weaver and Susannah Cooper in 1810 at Christchurch Spitalfields. Both of the parish.

Further birth records indicate the following children who are all older than Henry;

- 1811 -Sarah
- 1815 - James
- 1819 - Susan (who marries the James Pearce oh this thread)

Then this  long gap until they have Henry in 1826, does that seem odd?

I find Henry on the 1841 census living with a Joseph Petegree as his apprentice. I can't really find any definitive records for the rest of them on the 1841 census. Joseph's wife is Ann Cooper but have not found any links.

There are also no definitive birth records for Susannah Cooper (too many) and seemingly none that I haven't been able to rule out for Robert.

If anyone has either the time or inclination to check this for me I would be so very grateful. I am going to eventually have to throw the towel in on this branch, yet it is the branch that I am most interested in and passionate about. I assume that this is always the way!
