I think my best option may be to find an Italian military Facebook group who can identify the uniform.

From very useful posts here, I think we've got to (most likely)
Longino, Capitano di Gianoglio
(reign of) Victor Emmanuel I

Gianoglio is a village in Cuneo, Piedmonte, Italy. The first "i" seems so similar to the last, I think I favour this being an "i" than an "r".
I'm not 100% convinced by Longino, but don't have anything else to suggest!
Writing likely added at a later date.
For completeness, here is the date which I realise I had forgotten to post.

Many thanks everyone. I'll post if I have an update from anywhere else.
