Hi Cath

Yes.  Per the census records of 1841 and 1851 Caroline Hannah Syred was raised by her maternal grandparents.

Herbert Syred and his wife Hannah are not in either the census of 1841 or 1851

Hannah Syred appears in the 1861 census recorded as a widow living with her father.

Herbert Syred presumably died between 1851 and 1861 but there is no civil record of his death.  Possibly he died while in the army in Ireland thus there is no civil record

Thanks, Jann

well certainly no Herbert seems to be around and she appears to only have Caroline but she does use the name Syred right throught o her death
in 1881  she is with a Cousin Martha Coleman the Cricketers Beer House Dorking and in 1891 she is in
the Dorking Workhouse and she died in 1892 buried Dorking St Martin I think she was born 1812 in St John the Evangelist, Wotton, Parishes not in a Borough, England

it may have been that she met a soldier called Herbert Syred but never married and Caroline was the result!
