FindMyPast screen display
« on: Monday 08 March 21 11:19 GMT (UK) »
When looking at Census images on FindMyPast, a horizontal "film strip" of adjacent pages appears at the bottom of the screen.

Is there a way of removing these additional images?

Hold down "Ctrl" key and hit "-" a few times.
The film strip will decrease in size. You can still see (just) the applicable keys in top right hand corner to increase/decrease the actual image size etc but at least you have a better viewing portion.

As always, Crtl + brings it back to normal size

Not the best answer but the only thing I have found so far

Thanks for the response.  It does indeed work.  Someone somewhere must have thought that it was a good idea to introduce the film strip when there is already the perfectly adequate < and > arrows feature

It's surprising though how many people didn't realise that those arrows take you to the next or previous page!  ;D

Various ideas for de-cluttering the screen here:

I've been hitting the "report image error" (now an exclamation mark in a triangle) and telling them that there is this unwanted item obscuring my view of the image.

When someone complained about the "filmstrip" on their Facebook pages, they rapidly closed off comments - not a good sign.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

I noticed that too just after that pesky film strip appeared.

I must try the "report image error trick", I suspect they have paid someone to 'improve' things and didn't expect so many people to have problems. To be fair it doesn't effect everyone.

As there is a lengthy discussion here with further details as to people's actions and reports and FindMyPast's replies, I'm going to close this topic
