Diary > Monday 8th March
« on: Tuesday 09 March 21 00:12 GMT (UK) »
Not a great day. It didn't start well - apart from the fact that it was raining I made the mistake of switching on the This Morning programme. The majority of the programme was given over to the most controversial points of the Megan interview. I couldn't believe some of the things she came out with, such as her criticism of the head of the human resources team at the palace who said they couldn't help with her mental health concerns. Why on earth she thought they would be able to and to even have asked them is beyond me. And of course there was the other highly controversial issue. That finally made up my mind for me not to watch the interview tonight, it would be two hours of my life wasted while wanting to put my foot through the TV screen.

The rain continued nearly all day, I decided to hunt for the charger for my spare phone, I was successful so then I was able to contact Vodafone about the phone being disconnected. After several frustrating attempts to contact them by phone I resorted to the online chat, these things are supposed to be quick but invariably take much longer than a phone call. The upshot was that they did not refund the credit that was still on the pay as you go, they said it was too long ago for them to have records. Baloney! I had to order a new SIM card with a new number, that wasn't straightforward and entailed another online chat, I was so sick of it all.

I'd read that a new vaccination centre was opening today only a few miles away so had been checking every ten minutes for appointments . Eventually in the afternoon it came up, I hurriedly clicked to book a slot, when I requested the same place for the second jab it said it wasn't available. After going back a couple of times to look for one that wasn't miles away I decided to book anything for the second one and change it nearer the date. Put my email address in for a confirmation.
I got a message from a friend asking if I'd had my jab, at the same time the postie arrived with a parcel. Rang my friend to say that I'd just now been successful, while we were talking I later checked for a confirmation email, nothing there so checked the website and realised there was another button I should have clicked. When I did so it told me the appointment was gone. Aaaarrghh! Haven't been able to get another one there since.

Made myself get on with some chores, it was still raining and I'd come to the conclusion that I wouldn't get out for a walk. I was so wound up and needed a release. At 4.30 it had finally stopped raining so out I went, squelching across the field did help me. Felt calmer when I got home, had a normal evening after a day that had left me wishing I hadn't bothered getting up.

Oh dear Roobarb sorry to hear you’ve had such a frustrating day first with the weather, then the tv, your phone... on a positive note at least you found your charger... then ontop of that booking your vaccination.... I have felt just like you having had a similar day!

I decided to strip both beds and get the washing in... watched the mornings news and eventually had to leave the room as the more that was being shown about ‘that interview’ the more angry I was becoming .... many expletives being shouted at the tv...
so after breakfast got on with some indoor jobs whilst OH was looking at YouTube building tips... goodness knows why as in the 1990’s he ripped the whole front of the house off to extend it... 😱😱 I only asked for a dining room...bit like Michael Caine in The Italian Job...’ you’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off’.....
perhaps it was so long ago he’s forgotten how to lay bricks... oh dear I feel the back extension coming on... only been talking about it for the last five years at least...
I digress....
I was up and down the stairs in and out if the kitchen... decided to have a coffee calm my nerves and get on with the ironing whilst catching up with yesterday’s Antiques Roadshow...
I was halfway through the ironing when the iron suddenly became very hot and smelt dreadful... scorched the ironing board cover so quickly turned it off, threw open the windows ... rushed downstairs to tell OH..... still watching YouTube...
thermostats gone I should think was the reply I got... turned it back on dead as a dodo.... 😤😤
It’s exactly five years old... OH bought it when I was in hospital... they don’t make anything to last these days....
Ordered another one and new cover going to be here tomorrow...
so that’s now a new vacuum cleaner, kitchen sink tap, pump for the boiler, shock absorbers on the washing machine and now a new iron.... what next...
Oh and I forgot a new lawn mower last year as old one (30 yrs old) finally gave up the ghost...
OH went out in the garden to sort out new boards on his veg beds and I took a walk down the village to deliver the lottery money and get some air!
Friends hubbie arrived with some shopping... she had her jab (AZ one) on Saturday and has been feeling dreadful since... all day in bed yesterday with slight fever, headache, nausea... bit better today but completely wiped out...
After lunch we had a game of scrabble and I lost that too as OH got all tiles out in one go earning extra points.... he’s making a habit of that and I’m not happy... 😢
Did some cooking in preparation for dinner..
Had WhatsApp video with my friend M who also had her AZ jab on Saturday and felt feverish and headache...
after turning the mattresses and making up the beds I had a nice hot shower and hair wash...
Dinner was rest of lamb joint sliced in the gravy with sliced pots ontop and put last of garlic breadcrumb mix on... in the oven to crisp up... green vegs to go with it...
Watched usual Monday night tv...
Message from daughter to say boys enjoyed their first day back at school and gone to bed exhausted!
What a frustrating day.... fed up with things breaking down....

Hope others day has been better than mine and Roobarb’s!

Oh Roobarb, I can completely understand why you were so hacked off - those frustrating annoying little things can really get you down, and you had a triple / quadruple whammy.

You’ve had a run of bad luck with your appliances Caroline - I think you’ve been giving all of them such a workout since lockdown that you’ve probably worn them all out. At least these days it is somewhat easier to research and buy online rather than traipsing around the shops. I make crumb which sounds similar to yours Caroline - fresh garlic crushed and lightly fried in oil with panko breadcrumbs and crushed toasted almonds - it’s nice sprinkled over salmon.

Temperature not too high on Monday, but still quite humid. Started watching “The Split” (starring Nicola Walker (again) - she’s in eveything I’ve been watching lately). A sprinkle of rain late afternoon - dog not happy as we had to cut her walk short to avoid getting wet. Of course once we got back the rain stopped.

Re “the interview” ....I didn’t watch it in full - dipped in and out a couple of times, but already knew the main points before it aired as it had been all over the news. I can see that they may have wanted to clear a couple of things up but I’m afraid I wasn’t convinced by some of the claims. I might add that I neither like nor dislike the couple.

I hope you both have a better Tuesday.

Oh dear, such frustrations ,aren’t they annoying.
No they don’t make things to last ,haven’t done for a while .We bought a reconditioned cylinder vac when first married  1956,when I moved here in 2016 it was still working but only used for clearing up jobs not the daily whizz round and weekly proper do.
It cost ten pounds.
I gave it to a local shop that sells all sorts of second hand things .I’d had it fifty years  and  it was very old when we bought it,brown leatherette cover and fabric covered hose.A cloth dust bag.
No built in obsolescence there.
Well hospital this morning ,at nine ,son coming.
FH loved being back at school ,his little friend who will be starting in September but is an older four ,he seemingly has missed meeting FH outside
In the  fields.
His parents own the  horse’s new stables.
Horse somewhat better but still some mysteries to be sorted out.
Did not watch the interviews ,it would have seemed like treason!
Treachery!
They walk away from it all but seemingly she was annoyed their   children will not have titles!
I think that was  the Royal reporter on the news.
What a madam, if not a Madame!

She has very skinny legs  too!
Well must get on, not sure what traffic will be like and son must leave me at the door and a long walk to the department.
So look after yourselves .
Cheerio,V iktoria.

Good luck Viktoria hope all goes well for you and they sort you out... will be thinking of you this morning...

Your old vacuum sounds like the very first one I had with a cloth bag... inherited from my grandma along with a mattress and old fashioned gas cooker from my aunt... those were the days!

Glad to hear your FH enjoyed being back at school... it will be a relief for everyone I think!

Ruskie- I like the sound of your crumb topping with almonds in it goes so well with fish...

There must have been something in the air yesterday Caroline! What an expensive time it's been for you, let's hope that's it now.  YouTube seems to have been made for men, they seem to find a lot of useful stuff there. Do let us know if the back of your house is taken off!

Hope you're able to walk your dog today Ruskie, perhaps the rain will have lowered the temperature a little.

Hope your appointment goes well Viktoria,I'm thinking of you too.

Thankyou ,ECG done etc,no comments made but copy to GP.
They too were puzzled by my symptoms ,made suggestions and will wait a week or two and do another test ,but not in scanner this time ,I think it is another Perfusion test.
So I feel they are being thorough but no panic ,so not worried .
Such a puzzle why the indigestion comes at the same time as the Angina symptoms.
I shall plod on.

The Heart Nurse did say that one eye drop, the last at night has been reported as causing worsening of chest pains and Angina.
So letter to Eye Specialist ,perhaps there is another lwhich will cause  less harm.
I nearly was the owner of a posh car today!
Someone was blocked in ,car parks overflowing ,” Do you own a white Mercedes?”
Ah ,sadly no.!

All very organised at the hospital.Nurses so pleasant and not much waiting time.

Cheerio folks, just thought I’d let you know.
Viktoria.

It's a relief to hear that you are OK Viktoria despite the fact that it isn't obvious what the issue is. I hope they can sort out your drops and doses - lets hope that's an easy fix for you. Keep us up to date on your daughter's horse. Animals are lovely to have but it is such a worry when they are unwell.

I'm a bit concerned about your hubby's threatened burst of activity Caroline.  :) My heart sinks when my OH gets out some tools, but he wouldn't dare contemplate anything as ambitious as your hubby. It worries me when he has too much time on his hands, as he gets up to no good.  ;D
