Thank you so much for looking into this for me.

I did think it was my David at first because of his children's names , but as you say, possibly the people on Ancestry may have been guessing!!!

That is why I would have liked corroboration documentation before I jumped to any conclusion.  My Mum always said 2 wrongs don't make a right, so until I can find anything which ties him to Thomas & Elizabeth Gray, I think I should refrain from updating my tree.

I could go down the route of investigating the son of WILLIAM MCCULLOCH/JEAN PATON and then perhaps I can discard them.

And your confirmation that you can exclude this family comes from this family tree where original documents have been attached. David, son of William and Jean (Paton) died in Ayrshire in 1867.

I will now add the American David to my tree with all his Family.
