Back again KK ...

Don't know if you subscribe to ancestry.com (or other) ?
Ancestry have the "Wise's NZPO Directories" online ... have a feeling these can be accessed for free ??
But they are rather beastly to search through until you get the hang of them.  ::)

Anyway, just looked at a few years worth (of Wise's NZPO) and right up until 1955 there were only four houses in that street (# 20 - 18 - 16 and # 8 )  :D

Number 20 Moturoa Street, Pipitea (Thorndon)  .. occupied by  > >

1936 / 1940  - WYLIE - Mrs Martha (think I saw in WCC records "a WYLIE" was original builder ? )

and here you go ... a name for the house !!

1955 - Lady Freyberg's Service Women's Veterans Home - and at this time it is combined with # 18 Moturoa Street .

[Yes,  Wairarapa Archives - great. ]

So sorry that your lockdown has lasted this long - it doesn't seem fair.   Hope things brighten up soon.   :)

Mmm .. still known (or referred to) as Lady Fryberg House.    This is # 18 Moturoa (hidden behind the fence as I mentioned earlier).

Lady Freyberg Home  ... this gives some dates which may be of use ?

Natlib.govt  might also be able to provide you with more info if there's something you particularly want.

Hi Lu

What a star!!! You have done the hard work. Thank you so much. I had emailed the Wellington RSA and overnight got an email directing me to the National Library.
Fortunately I am a member of Ancestry but hadn't started on the directories although I have used them numerous times.
My husband and I were supposed to be coming home in February for a long holiday to include research but it looks like it may be another year before we get there.

Thanks again
KK

Hi Lu

I just wanted to let you know I emailed the National Library after looking to see what they had. I was really pleased to get a copy of an article on the Lady Freyberg House in the NZ Nursing Journal from December 1952. The article had everything I wanted to know. Even better was a photo in the article of my great aunt, her best friend and four other ex WW1 nurses. What a result!!!!! They also sent me a copy of my aunt's application to live there. I was thrilled and very impressed with the library. Thank you for your help.
Regards
KK

And yes, top marks to the National Library of New Zealand.
Hope your lockdown will be over soon ... and you can get back to Aotearoa for your holiday.
