Arthur Wallis 1883
« on: Wednesday 10 March 21 16:52 GMT (UK) »
In 1911 Arthur Wallis was living in Impington, on his own. The record states he was married and had been married for two years. His birth place was Little Thurlow Suffolk. occ. Garden Labourer.
Possible marriage is 1908 - Annie Jane Mayes / Mary Louise Orriss 4a 1578 !!
Also in 1911, Cherry Hinton, Cambridge is Elizabeth Mayes 1856 and Annie Wallace 1886 - is this his wife?
Any help appreciated.

There is a Private Arthur Wallis b. 1883 in Little Thurlow, Suffolk to George & Ellen Wallis.

He married Annie Jane Mayes on 19 Dec 1908 in Kedington, Suffolk.

Looks like they had two children:

Arthur Wallis b. 1915 in Rochford

Florence Maud Wallis b. 1917 in West Ham

He died in 1919.

Does this sound right?

It all looks good. Thank you. Confirmation of his marriage to Annie is a great help and I hadn't realised he was in the Army, and died whilst still serving ???

I have just looked for Arthur 1915 and Florence M 1917, which I found ... both mother Mayes. ...
 ..... also found a Stanley 1920, mother Mayes. ??

Your information also shows that it was most probably Annie with her mother in 1911, Cherry Hinton.

Intriguing... I hadn't found Stanley because on Ancestry he appears as Stanley R Wallis, mother's maiden name Mayes but on the GRO index (which I searched) he appears as Stanley Richard Wallis, no maiden name for mother provided (usually occurs when a baby is illegitimate). I wonder whether there is an error somewhere or maybe Annie had a baby out of wedlock?

Stanley's birth was in Dec qtr 1920 and Arthur died in April 1919 so I think you are correct in your assumption.
