Sarah Williamson - missing person in 1800
« on: Thursday 11 March 21 14:33 GMT (UK) »
I have the will of my ancestor, Robert Tebbett, who was a "gentleman" of Enderby in Leicestershire. In his will, he provided for all of his children, including "Sarah the wife of John Williamson for her better support... who hath been absent and not heard of for a considerable time". Her father intended to leave her £30. I have not found a baptism for Sarah, this will is the only reason I know she existed! I would love to find out what happened to her if I can.

I have searched for a marriage between a Sarah Tebbett and a John Williamson but no luck. There was a marriage at Manchester on 16 December 1775 between "Sarah Tabbott" and "John Williams". Could this be her?

If so, can anyone think of why she would marry in Manchester?

Robert Tebbett was married to a lady named Ann, no marriage yet. Their first known child was Eleanor. I have no baptism but her burial record (died unmarried in 1817 in Enderby) gave her year of birth as around 1741.

The will was dated 1800 and he was buried 27 April 1800 in Enderby.

Just leaving this here as it might help others:

It's interesting to note that none of his children have baptism records online. I wonder whether they just haven't been uploaded yet?

FindMyPast have parish registers (Baptisms) from mid 1600's for Enderby.  They also have marriages and burials

Looks like the 1775 marriage between Sarah and John took place at Manchester cathedral by license. Witnesses were James Wilson and John Boadman. John Williams was of Warrington, whereas Sarah was a spinster of Manchester.

I've looked on FindMyPast but I still can't find any baptisms for the Tebbett children...

There is a Sarah Tebbett m. 1793 in Enderby on FindMyPast. I can't view it because I only have a sub on Ancestry. Can anyone who has FindMyPast tell us what it says?

Looks like Robert and Ann used Swepstone to baptise their children:

John, 16 May 1744
Ann, 6 July 1747
Brian, 7 February 1753

Sarah Tebbett married Marston Hedley at Enderby, 31 March 1793.

Added: This Sarah was the niece of "missing" Sarah. Her father was Robert Tebbett Jr and his wife Ann Hardy.

I thought the date was a bit too late but it is always worth a look. No Sarahs baptised in Swepstone? A lot of family trees have Sarah Tebbett as the first child of Robert & Ann born/baptised 23 April 1739 but as usual there are no attached records to prove it!
