Am trying to find marriage announcements and/or news stories for three members of the Shaw family of brewers from Ashton under Lyne.

Alfred Dean Cain [1856-1899] married Mary Shaw [1855-1917] on 3Q 1878 in Ashton under Lyne

Lena Alexandra Cain [1863-1935] married Henry (Harry) Shaw [1862-1909] on 25 August 1886 in Toxteth

You have posted on the Cheshire board but the marriage locations are all in Lancashire.  Ashton Under Lyne was in Lancashire at that time.

I have asked the moderator to move your post to the Lancs board
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

The first one you listed was at Holy Trinity Southport (Southport was in Ormskirk Registration District at that time). As far as I can see their registers are not available on line for that date.

The 1886 one was at St Michael Toxteth on 25 August 1886. The image is available on Ancestry.

Thanks for that but it's newspaper announcements and reports that I'm trying to trace.

I subscribe to the British Newspaper Archive through Find My Past but haven't had much luck with the search terms I've used.

The local paper for Southport, the Southport Visiter is not online. The paper is on film in our library but our libraries are closed so I can’t look it up for you.

If and when you are able it will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

There are over half a million pages of Southport newspapers on line in the British Newspaper Archive but parts are of poor original quality and are often missed by the OCR reader.

To be honest I’d forgotten that there were some of the Visiter online. I presume you’ve looked for the marriage already as you knew the Visiter was online.

There is no indication when our libraries will reopen so hopefully by the time they open you will have the actual marriage date to make searching easier.
