Info on James Gould
« on: Friday 12 March 21 02:47 GMT (UK) »
I’m looking for information on the birth of a James Gould.

From what I know so far, is that he was born around the 1780s and died between 1851 and 1861. Censuses state that he was born in Midlothian/Edinburgh and that we worked as a Porter. So, perhaps he came from out with Scotland and the censuses are wrong.

I know he married an Isabella Foot in 1802 in Edinburgh. His name was put down as Guild on the certificate.

I also know he had a son, Robert Gould (1818-1902), who worked as a Brassfounder.

I was wondering does anyone know anymore about this man? And more specifically, who his parents may have been.

Addresses in censuses were 20 Cowgate and 4 West Richmond Terrace.

Hi , welcome to RC  :)

From the OPR's deaths & burials on SP -
James Goold , age 75 , date 13th Dec. 1854 , Edinburgh Midlothian.
I don't think that record will name his parents.
If that's your James it looks like he just missed the start of official registration.
His wife Isabella died in 1857 ?

Added-
Daughters Helen(2) and Isabella Agnes ?

Edit: seems I don't know how to upload an image, every time i tried it said there was an error, perhaps the file was too big. So i tried to upload from an external site.

Edited , [/url] , should work now.

Thank you. Would the last column be place of burial?

James Gould, 75 years, Pleasance, December 13, Close E the Rev McGregor's headstone. I think.

In which case yes, the last column is the place of burial.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
