John Lane ww1 hospital
« on: Friday 12 March 21 11:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I have a mystery im trying to solve and  need some help. John Lane was born in Wellington Somerset around 1893 oldest son to Walter and Anna lane . I have a copy of a newspaper cutting dated 23/1/1918 in which his mother was asking for his brother not to be taken away from the family business ,(butcher). It states that John was taken for military service and has broken down. And was in a military hospital in Dundee.  Ive not bern able to find any trace of him after.  I dont kniw if he stayed up there or came home or when he died, hoping a new set of eyes might have better luck or know where to look, thanks 😊

Good find ev, but there's no sign of John Lane there. The "Lane JW" is James William.

Did the father Walter leave a Will ?
Can't see a likely death in Scotland(at least for the WW1 period).
Was his mother's maiden surname Trenchard ?

There's a report of the father's death ("Death of Mr W C Lane") in the Taunton Courier of 30 October 1937, page 11, col 2. Only one surviving son (Ernest) by then.
